What it does
jscolor adds a colour picker to web inputs, buttons and other elements through one JavaScript file. It offers GPLv3 access and paid commercial licences, with per-field controls for appearance, palettes, colour notation and opacity.
Store colour and opacity together
Attach the data-jscolor attribute to an element, then choose the format the application expects. HEX and RGB values can keep opacity in a separate alphaElement field; formats such as RGBA can carry it in the colour string. Setting alphaChannel to false keeps the colour fully opaque.
The event hooks distinguish a live adjustment from a completed change. This lets a preview respond while the user moves a control and saves the final choice on release or when leaving the field.
jscolor is available under GPLv3 for compatible projects. Paid commercial licences provide a separate route for proprietary projects, with developer, team and organisation coverage.
Strengths
- Colour notation and a separate opacity field can be configured together.
- Live input and completed-change events support different integration needs.
Watch out for
- The GPL route requires a compatible project licence.
Best for
- Developers adding configurable colour inputs to existing web pages
