What it does
Kagi is an ad-free search service funded by subscriptions. It documents optional Privacy Pass authentication, local location storage and result customization, with separate operational logging disclosures.
Kagi combines search customization and filters with optional Privacy Pass access. Generate tokens while logged in, then spend one per search through its Chrome or Firefox extension, Android app, or Orion. This is an alternative to sending account credentials with each search.
Its settings let you clear a locally stored precise location and hide the Kagi referrer on outgoing results. The policy also describes non-account-linked query records for debugging: seven days for load-balancer and virtual-machine logs, and 90 days for sampled Sentry errors. The initial search allowance is a trial of the paid service.
Strengths
- Privacy Pass is an optional alternative to ordinary account authentication for searches.
- Location and referrer controls are documented.
- The service is funded by subscriptions rather than search advertising.
Watch out for
- Continued search use requires payment after the initial allowance.
- The privacy policy discloses temporary operational request logging.
Best for
- People willing to pay for ad-free search and explicit privacy controls
