What it does

KeyBank combines US checking accounts with online and mobile tools for budgets, saving goals and recurring charges. Key Smart Checking requires USD 10 to open and has no monthly maintenance fee. Online applications are available to eligible adults in the bank’s listed states.

See where repeat payments go

A recurring subscription is easier to investigate when its merchant is recognizable. KeyBank's account history displays merchant names and logos, while the subscription view collects repeat charges for a separate review. Goals and Budget tools sit alongside that activity; the app also supports card locking and check deposits.

Set up EasyUp saving

EasyUp moves an amount you choose, from USD 0.10 to USD 5 per debit-card purchase, into a personal KeyBank savings or money market account. Health savings accounts are excluded.

  1. Sign in to KeyBank online banking and choose Tools > EasyUp. In the app, start with More > Tools.
  2. Select the checking and savings accounts and the amount to transfer.
  3. Return to EasyUp to pause transfers, change the amount or switch accounts.

Preferences are checked at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time. A pause made after that cutoff may not stop a transfer for a purchase posting that night. KeyBank processes the day's saving only if the checking balance covers the transfer plus USD 50.

Key Smart Checking and eligibility

Key Smart Checking has no monthly maintenance fee, minimum balance or transaction-count requirement. The opening deposit is USD 10. Other account services can carry fees.

For an online individual application, you must be a US citizen aged 18 or older living in Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Indiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Utah, Vermont or Washington. Have a Social Security or taxpayer identification number and valid photo ID ready. Other applicants can ask a branch about eligibility.

After approval, the confirmation includes an account number for digital-banking enrollment. Enrollment needs your Social Security number and either an account number or a supported bank card and PIN.
