What it does
Khalti by IME combines wallet payments, bills, transfers and merchant collection in Nepal following the joining of Khalti and IME Pay. Consumers register through the mobile app; businesses have a separate merchant-account and verification route. Some transfers have free allowances, while card loading, other services and merchant collection have their own charges.
New wallet users need the Android or iOS app because consumer web signup is disabled. For identity verification, open Profile > Edit and complete the requested personal, address and identification details, with a clear face photo and both sides of the identity document. Khalti's KYC page says verification is required for transactions above NPR5,000.
Examples from the wallet tariff
| Activity | Published charge |
|---|---|
| Load from a domestic Visa or Mastercard | 3% of the amount |
| Load from an international Visa or Mastercard | 5% of the amount |
| Withdraw through a linked bank account | First three monthly transactions free; NPR10 each from the fourth |
| Listed instalment-payment service | NPR10 per payment |
Peer transfers also have free allowances and a charge after the stated frequency limits. Check the tariff for the specific activity before funding the wallet or sending money, since the payment and withdrawal routes are priced differently.
For website collections, create a merchant account and complete business verification. The integration sends an order reference and amount to Khalti, receives a payment address, and directs the customer to checkout. After the callback, the merchant should use the lookup API to confirm the transaction's status.
Testing uses a separate merchant environment. Live access needs production keys and the approved merchant setup; the developer guide applies a small per-transaction collection limit until business verification is completed. Merchant pricing is tailored to the business, separately from the consumer-wallet tariff.
