What it does

Kismet captures and identifies Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and other radio devices, with distributed capture and a unified observation database.

Launch Kismet and add the capture sources through its web interface; the default launch has no predefined source and captures nothing until one is added. Local or remote sensors can feed observations into the server, with packets, devices, location and runtime data combined in kismetdb when logging is enabled. Source control requires the documented privileged-helper/group setup or elevated launch. Hardware and driver support determine the available radios. For Wi-Fi, monitor mode, receiver position and channel coverage can all leave traffic unseen. Kismet is mostly passive, with documented exceptions such as Bluetooth scanning mode. Linux is the most compatible platform; the Windows route is remote capture through WSL.
