What it does

KitBash3D provides reusable environment kits, vehicles and materials for building 3D worlds. Its Cargo application connects the library with supported creative software. Free Cargo assets and kits accompany perpetual kit purchases and library subscriptions.

KitBash3D supplies modular environments, interiors, vehicles and materials through Cargo. Cargo also connects to the Greyscalegorilla library for materials, HDRIs and other assets. Text search, reference-image search and Show Similar help locate pieces before sending them into a scene.

The import process preserves object hierarchies and instances, translates materials for the chosen renderer and offers texture choices from 1K JPEG to 4K PNG. Supported hosts include Blender, Unreal Engine, Cinema 4D, Maya, 3ds Max and Houdini; Cargo itself runs on Windows and Mac.

Cargo can be used without a subscription, and free kits include Mission to Minerva, Secrets of the Luminara and Neo City. Their assets allow commercial use inside a larger work with substantial additional content. Whole-kit FBX or OBJ downloads require an account and checkout, even for a free kit.

A purchased kit provides indefinite licensed use in new projects. A library subscription provides access during its term; assets already incorporated into a project keep their permitted use, but new projects require renewed access. Multi-person organizations need the appropriate business or team licence, even when only one employee uses the assets. Raw redistribution and AI-training use are excluded.

Strengths

  • Reference images and Show Similar support visual asset discovery.
  • Cargo imports structured geometry and renderer-specific materials.

Watch out for

  • Subscription assets cannot be used in new projects after access ends.
  • Individual licensing excludes organizations with more than one person.

Best for

  • Environment blockouts
  • Film and game world-building
