What it does
Kittysplit collects expenses paid by different people and calculates the resulting group balances. Friends can use its shared Kitty link in a browser or the iOS and Android apps. Groups of up to nine people can use the free version without registration, with a paid upgrade for larger groups and extra tools.
Set up a shared Kitty
Name the event, enter the participants and select Create Kitty. Share its link through Invite to Kitty, then use Add expense to record the payer, amount and people involved. Split differently allows fixed amounts, percentages or shares, such as different numbers of nights in a holiday rental.
Returned deposits belong under Income; repayments between participants belong under Transfer. After someone repays a balance, Mark as settled records that payment. It does not send the money.
Free or Super Kitty?
The free version permits unlimited expenses in one currency for up to nine participants. Super Kitty costs €2.99 once per group, supports up to 100 people and converts foreign expenses to the group's home currency. Any participant can buy the upgrade, and its cost becomes another shared expense. It applies to that Kitty only.
Strengths
- The Excel export includes expenses, calculations and final balances.
- Super Kitty provides a read-only link for people who should see the totals without editing.
Watch out for
- Changing the home currency in a free Kitty changes the currency label without converting the amounts.
Best for
- Holiday groups whose members paid different costs
- Friends splitting a one-off event without everyone registering
