What it does
Klarna lets merchants offer its payment options through supported commerce platforms, payment providers or a direct integration. The merchant tools cover checkout, order capture, refunds and settlement reports. Available routes depend on the platform and market, with fees defined by the commercial agreement.
Start with the integration your store supports
Klarna's guides are organized around the seller's platform or acquiring partner. Where available, Klarna through Shopify Payments needs no separate Klarna account, app installation or Merchant ID. The direct Klarna Payments Shopify app is a different route reserved for selected managed merchants with prior approval.
A direct web integration can use an in-page widget with the Payments API and JavaScript SDK, or redirect to a Klarna-hosted payment page. The direct route needs Merchant Portal access and API credentials for testing.
Capture delivered items and process returns
For orders managed in Klarna's Merchant Portal, capture records the items sent or services provided. A full capture covers the entire order; partial captures follow separate deliveries. Captured items can then be refunded together, individually or by a specified amount. Refunds are deducted from a later merchant payout.
Platform integrations have their own order-management rules. Existing Klarna Payments module users on Shopify should manage orders through Shopify to avoid data mismatches.
Settlement reports can be filtered and downloaded as CSV or PDF. Contract terms determine whether a sale carries a fixed fee, a percentage fee or both.
