What it does
Kleki is a free painting app that runs in a browser, with brushes, layers, selections and clipping masks. It can save PNG or JPG images, layered PSD files, or each layer as a separate PNG. Its canvas supports up to 16 layers at 2048 by 2048 pixels.
Drawing and shading in the browser
For colouring line art, the Paint Bucket has a Grow setting that helps fill thin gaps around edges. To shade on another layer, add it above the shape and enable Clipping Mask in the Layers panel. A stabilizer and pressure-sensitive input are also available.
Saving a drawing you can reopen
Use the File tab and its File Format dropdown. Choose PSD to keep layers, PNG for a finished image with transparency, or Layers (PNG) for individual layer files. Choosing a format saves immediately; later presses of Save keep using it.
Kleki has no autosave or cloud storage. Browser Storage holds one image, and accidental-tab recovery lasts seven days after recording begins. A PSD with more than 16 layers opens flattened. These limits make the app easier to assess before moving a large layered drawing into it.
Strengths
- Clipping masks let shading stay inside a separate underlying shape
- PNG, JPG, PSD and individual-layer exports are available
- The app can work offline after it has been opened once
Watch out for
- Canvas dimensions stop at 2048 by 2048 pixels
- There is no autosave or cloud storage
- Imported PSD files with more than 16 layers are flattened
Best for
- Small illustrations drawn in a browser
- Quick line-art colouring with layered PSD handoff
