What it does

Kora provides checkout, payment links, virtual accounts and balance reporting for businesses collecting African payments. Its onboarding guide names customer-payment markets including Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and South Africa. Account registration is free, but live use needs business verification and a commercial fee agreement.

A payment link gives a business without its own checkout a Kora-hosted collection page. Open Payment Link in the dashboard, enter the requested details, customize the page and preview it before activation. Share the resulting address with a customer or attach it to an invoice.

For a website integration, choose between Standard Checkout, which opens a payment window on the merchant's site, and Redirect Checkout, which sends the buyer to Kora. The redirect request supplies the amount, currency, customer details and return address; its response provides the checkout address. A server notification, called a webhook, reports later payment events. The integration should validate its signature before updating an order.

Registration asks for personal contact details, the business name, address and country of registration. After email verification, select Individual, Registered Business or NGO. The dashboard initially runs in test mode. Individual activation needs a personal profile and identity document; registered entities supply business documents and, where required, representative information. For example, the Nigerian sole-proprietor checklist includes business-name registration and proof of address. Approval enables real transactions.

Kora's merchant agreement directs businesses to a sales representative for the applicable prices. Ask for the collection, payout and settlement schedule covering the countries and currencies being activated; the list of customer-payment markets does not itself establish where a business may register.
