What it does
Microsoft SQL Server Migration Assistant migrates supported Access, Db2, MySQL, Oracle, and SAP ASE databases to SQL Server or Azure SQL destinations.
Choose the assistant for the source family and check supported versions; the family targets SQL Server and Azure SQL. The MySQL workflow creates a project, connects endpoints, maps types/schemas and optionally assesses conversion. Convert loads translated definitions into SSMA's metadata, leaving target application to a later script or synchronization step; data migration follows separately. Information_schema and mysql system schemas are excluded. The MySQL client guide requires Windows 11+ or Server 2022+, .NET 4.7.2+ and MySQL ODBC 5.1. SQL Server targets can run on Windows or Linux, which does not make the client a Linux application.
