What it does

LibraryThing catalogs personal book collections, supports tags and classifications, and connects readers through the books they share.

Add the edition you own, then use tags for distinctions that matter in your collection. A private account can keep the catalogue out of public view. LibraryThing’s personal catalogue is free; TinyCat, its separate circulation-facing service for small libraries, has different professional terms.

An email address is encouraged for account recovery but is not required at signup. The catalogue can hold music and movies as well as books, and its editable classifications let a home collection use a custom arrangement rather than a library standard.

Strengths

  • Unlimited personal book cataloguing
  • Private catalogue option
