What it does

Listening Books lends audiobooks to UK residents whose illness or disability makes print difficult to use. Paid membership and a limited sponsored free-membership route are available.

Confirm both UK residency and the print-related eligibility criteria before applying. The guidance includes physical, visual, learning and mental health conditions; contact the membership team if the reader’s condition is not listed. Individual membership is annual, with a limited number of free memberships for people who would find the fee a barrier.

Listen through the website or download with Libby on a phone or tablet. A local public-library Libby account does not automatically open this charity’s collection: the reader needs a separate Listening Books membership.

Membership also includes PressReader newspaper and magazine access.

Watch out for

  • Requires UK residency and an illness or disability affecting print reading

Best for
