What it does

LiveCoinWatch displays cryptocurrency prices, market caps, volume and liquidity in configurable tables. Public browsing does not require a login. Its free API includes 10,000 requests a day, with an account needed to generate the developer key.

LiveCoinWatch gives you control over the market view itself. Choose a quote currency, then use Categories, Exchanges or Platforms to narrow the table. Layout and row-count controls change how much you see at once, while refresh settings range from two to sixty seconds.

Read the column headings before comparing numbers. Trading volume covers activity over a period; the liquidity column is marked within 2% of price. Neither is the same as market capitalization. The FAQ explains that price and volume calculations use spot markets with trading fees, and the main rank requires at least two exchanges and three markets. Coverage rules can therefore affect where a coin appears.

Working with the free API

The API allowance is 10,000 requests per day. Generate a key from your profile, keep it private, and supply it in the x-api-key header. Data requests use POST with JSON bodies and return JSON responses.

For a coin list, select the quote currency, sorting and pagination parameters. Each response uses the requested quote currency, so use the same one when combining results. The credits endpoint reports the remaining daily allowance.

One detail matters when turning the response into a percentage: a delta value of 1 means no change. Calculate percentage change as (delta - 1) × 100, rather than displaying the raw multiplier as a percentage. For example, 1.05 represents a 5% increase.

The public API has one active key per profile; regenerating it replaces the previous key. Plan your application's update frequency around the daily allowance instead of copying the website's fastest refresh setting.

Strengths

  • Currency, category, exchange and display controls make the market table adaptable.
  • The free API includes a remaining-credit lookup and documented response conventions.

Watch out for

  • Ranked coverage requires a minimum number of exchanges and markets.
  • The free API is limited to 10,000 requests each day.

Best for

  • Visitors following crypto markets in a chosen quote currency
  • Developers building small market-data tools with a daily request budget
