What it does
Vectoraster turns images, text, gradients or noise into vector halftones and stippled designs on a Mac. Points can be dots, lines, characters or custom shapes, with size, colour and placement driven by the input. Designs can also be animated and exported as vectors, images, video or point data.
Choose the mark and what controls it
Import an image or build a dynamic input such as a gradient. Select a point shape, then vary its size, transformation or colour from that input. A line mode produces changing stroke widths instead of separate dots. Pattern controls add rotation, offsets, waves, twists or randomness, with a live preview.
The resulting geometry can leave as SVG or PDF. CSV export supplies point locations, sizes, angles and colours for downstream processing. Video can be used as an animated input, while keyframes animate pattern and point settings.
Keep the purchase route consistent
The licence is a one-time purchase covering updates within version 8. A personal licence permits the same person to use several computers. App Store and developer-site licences cannot be exchanged, so install through the route matching the purchase. Major-version upgrades are paid separately.
Strengths
- Custom shapes and characters can replace ordinary halftone dots
- CSV output exposes point geometry for other tools
- Video inputs can drive animated patterns
Watch out for
- Available only for Mac
- Developer-site and App Store licences are separate
- Major-version upgrades are not included
Best for
- Illustrators making custom halftone treatments
- Designers exporting point patterns for further processing
