What it does
Lucide is a community icon library with SVG assets and package integrations. Its components expose color, size and stroke controls, and applications can import only the icons they use.
Lucide is independently maintained and expanded from Feather. Its website lets you inspect icons with different sizes, colors and line weights, including a non-scaling stroke option.
For React, install lucide-react and import a named component such as Camera. It renders an inline SVG, with defaults of 24 pixels, a stroke width of 2 and the surrounding text color. Set nonScalingStroke when the line should remain the same screen thickness as the icon grows; otherwise the stroke scales with the drawing.
Named imports keep unused icons out of the bundle. A direct import such as lucide-react/icons/camera also avoids resolving the main icon index, which can help server rendering. Those individual entry points are ES modules; older Node environments using require should use the package root instead.
The free library uses ISC, with MIT terms retained for the Feather-derived icons listed on its licence page. Keep the relevant notices with the assets you redistribute.
Strengths
- Offers a non-scaling stroke control as well as ordinary size and weight settings.
- Named and per-icon imports support selective loading.
Watch out for
- Per-icon entry points require ES-module-compatible loading.
Best for
- Applications needing a broad outline icon system.
- Teams sharing an icon package between screens.
