What it does
Lumark is a local-first desktop Markdown note-taking app. It stores notes as plain `.md` files in folders on the user's computer, with autosave, folder search, and a split editor that shows rendered Markdown beside the source. The official site says the app works offline, requires no account, and has no built-in cloud service; it is open source under the MIT License.
Keep simple notes as files
Open Lumark, create or choose a notes folder, and write in the Markdown editor while the rendered preview stays beside it. The official documentation describes folders, search, autosave, source/preview modes, and the exact local-file model. That makes Lumark easy to pair with existing text tools, but it does not attempt to manage the rest of a knowledge system for you.
Lumark's docs say there is no account, cloud, or tracking, and the product site lists Windows, macOS, and Linux builds. The release page lists v0.10.0 on 2026-10-19; the license is MIT. Because sync is not built in, users need another file-sync or backup method if they want to access the same notes elsewhere. No download, folder selection, or synchronization was tested.
Strengths
- Notes remain ordinary Markdown files in folders on the user's own computer.
- Autosave and a split source/preview editor support quick writing without a separate export step.
- The app works offline and is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
Watch out for
- There is no built-in cloud sync, account system, mobile app, or collaboration service.
- Its minimal feature set is not a replacement for a large notebook database or team wiki.
Best for
- Writing and previewing Markdown notes locally with very little setup
- People who want an offline editor and already have a separate file backup or sync method
