What it does

Lumion turns architectural models into images, animations and 360-degree panoramas. Lumion Pro includes scene assets, materials, lighting and effects, while Lumion Cloud supports presentation sharing, markup and version comparison. Named-user and floating subscriptions suit different patterns of team access.

Lumion Pro can merge team project files and upload rendered images, videos and panoramas directly to Lumion Cloud. Reviewers can mark up a presentation, compare revisions and track approvals. LiveSync plugins connect model changes from applications such as SketchUp, Revit, Archicad and Rhino to the rendering scene.

The euro prices are EUR 999 upfront for a one-year named-user subscription or EUR 1,299 upfront for one Pro Floating seat. A named licence belongs to one person and allows one active session, even when installed on several computers. A floating seat can be used by different team members while that seat is available. Custom arrangements are offered for practices with ten or more users.

Trial and workstation

The 14-day Pro trial needs no credit card. The signup route asks for the form, email confirmation and a Lumion Account login before downloading the installer. Some regions are directed to a local partner. It includes the full Pro feature set with a curated asset library, rather than the complete commercial library.

A Windows machine and an internet connection are required. Minimum specifications include 16 GB of RAM and 6 GB of graphics memory; the full commercial installation needs at least 105 GB of free disk space. Lumion describes minimum-specification machines as suitable only for simple projects. The trial installation is smaller, requiring at least 12 GB.

Strengths

  • Direct Cloud uploads keep comments and revision comparison beside the presentation.
  • A floating seat can serve team members who work at different times.

Watch out for

  • Minimum-specification hardware is intended only for simple scenes.
  • The trial supplies a curated subset of the commercial asset library.

Best for

  • Architectural teams presenting buildings and surrounding context
  • Practices that need client feedback on successive visual revisions
