What it does
LuxCoreRender is a physically based rendering engine that simulates light transport. It supports CPU and GPU computation and provides an API for integration.
LuxCoreRender simulates light transport for physically based rendering, with particular attention to indirect light and caustics. CPU, OpenCL and CUDA computation provide different hardware routes. Artists can use the BlendLuxCore integration inside Blender, while developers can work through the LuxCore API.
BlendLuxCore is installed as a Blender extension ZIP. Remove an older extension before using Install from Disk for the replacement. Version 2.11.x explicitly supports Blender 4.5 LTS and 5.2 LTS; other non-LTS combinations are not guaranteed. Windows, Linux and both Intel and Apple Silicon macOS builds are listed.
For a custom pipeline, the pyluxcore package supplies Python bindings. Separate sample applications provide a command-line renderer and a standalone graphical interface, with example scenes available to download. The renderer is free for private and commercial work, and its API can be used in both open-source and commercial applications.
Strengths
- Blender, Python and standalone routes serve different rendering workflows.
- CPU and GPU computation options support varied hardware.
- The renderer and API may be used for commercial work.
Watch out for
- BlendLuxCore support is tied to specific Blender release combinations.
Best for
- Blender artists studying difficult lighting and caustics
- Developers integrating a physically based renderer
