What it does

MailPoet is a WordPress email marketing plugin. It creates newsletters from site content, sends automatic post updates and welcome series, and offers segmentation and WooCommerce-related email reporting.

MailPoet keeps the newsletter near the WordPress content it uses. The editor can pull images from the site's media library, and automatic post emails can run daily, weekly or monthly. A publication with a regular editorial schedule can therefore send a digest without manually uploading the same images into another service.

The pricing choice also determines who sends the email. Business includes the MailPoet Sending Service; Creator provides the marketing functions without that service, for owners arranging their own sending. Agency covers multiple sites, with subscriber capacity measured per MailPoet instance.

For a WooCommerce site, reporting includes purchased products, orders and revenue associated with email activity, and segmentation can combine subscriber properties with behavior. For example, a product newsletter can show which featured items led to purchases. Free Starter covers up to 500 subscribers and 5,000 emails per month.

Download the plugin from MailPoet's WordPress link and choose a plan through its account site. Starter and Business include the MailPoet Sending Service. Creator requires you to arrange delivery; Agency supports 50 websites, with each site's subscriber allowance counted separately.

Strengths

  • Newsletter content and images can come directly from WordPress
  • Sending-service and self-managed-sending plans are clearly distinguished

Watch out for

  • Creator requires arranging an external sending route
  • Agency subscriber capacity applies per plugin instance rather than one pooled list

Best for

  • WordPress publishers sending post digests
  • WooCommerce stores keeping email work in WordPress
