What it does

Mailrelay provides newsletter editing, contact segmentation, personalized content and campaign statistics. It offers a permanent free account, paid sending arrangements and SMTP or API routes for transactional messages. Its free account includes 20,000 subscribers and 80,000 monthly email credits.

Mailrelay's personalization extends beyond inserting a name. Parts of a message can be shown or hidden according to subscriber preferences, while segments choose who receives the campaign at all. A club with several activity groups could keep one newsletter design and include the relevant sections for each group.

One email credit covers a message up to 100 KB, including attachments; each additional 100 KB uses another credit. A text-and-link bulletin and a large attached document can therefore consume different capacity even when they reach the same audience. A link to the document avoids adding the attachment's size to every message.

The Free plan carries Mailrelay branding and offers transactional SMTP/API access only as a temporary trial before an add-on charge. Standard and Enterprise include that delivery route. The permanent free account includes 20,000 subscribers and 80,000 monthly email credits. Use the free-account signup form to begin.

Strengths

  • Conditional sections adapt one email to subscriber preferences
  • Segmentation and a REST API support targeted campaign workflows

Watch out for

  • Larger messages and attachments can consume more than one email credit
  • Free-account transactional sending becomes a paid add-on after its trial
  • Removing branding from Free requires an add-on

Best for

  • Organizations personalizing different sections of a shared newsletter
