What it does

MailWizz is self-hosted email-marketing software with administrative controls, customer accounts, lists, campaigns and delivery-server management. It can connect multiple sending services and provides different licenses for internal use or charging customers for access. Annual and lifetime licenses are available, with hosting arranged separately.

MailWizz distinguishes system administrators from the customers creating campaigns. Administrators configure user groups, customer limits and delivery servers; customers work with their own lists and messages. For an organization running several independent publications, that separation can prevent a campaign editor from needing the authority to change the whole sending system.

The delivery setup has its own responsibilities. SMTP connections can require bounce and feedback-loop servers, while supported email providers report those events through webhooks. The required bounce setup depends on the delivery provider. The platform also has global suppression controls applying across the system.

A Regular license covers managing one's own campaigns, while charging others for system access requires Extended. Both subscription and lifetime purchase options exist, and neither ordinary software license includes hosting. Subscriptions last one year. If renewal is missed, a five-day grace period follows before the application goes offline; stored data remains intact. The license key unlocks the software download and generates the temporary link for managing payments in the Stripe Customer Portal.

Strengths

  • Administrator and campaign-customer controls serve different responsibilities
  • Multiple delivery services and global suppression can be managed centrally

Watch out for

  • Hosting and delivery configuration remain separate from the software license
  • Charging customers for access requires the Extended license
  • An expired subscription can put the application offline

Best for

  • Organizations maintaining an email system for several publications or customer groups
