What it does
Majestic specializes in backlink analysis. Site Explorer, referring-domain reports, link context and link graphs help examine how sites connect, using the vendor's Fresh and Historic indexes.
Majestic is built around links between websites. In Site Explorer, investigate a domain's referring sites, then use Link Context to see where a backlink appears. Link Graph helps reveal relationships among the sites. These views are useful when a backlink list needs explanation, such as a publisher researching which publications cite a competing study.
The index matters. Lite uses the Fresh Index for recent backlink research. Pro adds the Historic Index, raw exports and comparisons for longer investigations.

A free account provides limited daily Site Explorer use and a weekly showcase domain. It is useful for trying the reports, but it does not provide unrestricted competitor research. Direct API access, for feeding Majestic data into your own software, requires the API plan; Lite's OpenApps connections are different.
