What it does

Marmoset Toolbag combines texture baking, painting and rendering. Its baker includes interactive cage correction, bake groups and support for multiple texture sets and UDIMs.

Marmoset Toolbag joins texture baking, material painting and rendering in one application. Its baker transfers high-resolution surface detail to production meshes, and linked Texture Projects update when the baked maps change. Finished scenes can also be shared through the WebGL-based Marmoset Viewer.

Quick Loader sorts high and low meshes into Bake Groups to avoid unwanted projection between parts. Cage Offset and Skew painting correct local bake errors while the preview updates. A Bake Project can handle UDIMs and multiple texture sets, with control over tangent space, UV padding, sample count and output bit depth. Outputs include separate files or layered PSDs, at resolutions up to 8192 × 8192.

Access begins with a Marmoset account: download the installer, sign into the application and start the fully featured 30-day trial. Individual and Studio licences offer monthly or annual subscriptions and perpetual purchases. A perpetual Toolbag 5 licence includes 5.x updates; an active subscription follows new major versions. Each seat permits one concurrent user, and moving it between machines is subject to a 30-minute cooldown.

Strengths

  • Bake corrections have interactive visual feedback.
  • Linked Bake and Texture Projects keep input maps synchronized.
  • UDIMs, texture sets and layered PSD output support complex assets.

Watch out for

  • Perpetual purchases cover updates within the purchased major version.
  • Seat transfers between machines have a 30-minute cooldown.

Best for

  • Game artists baking high-to-low mesh detail
  • Artists preparing textured portfolio renders
