What it does
LaTeXML converts TeX and LaTeX into an intermediate XML representation, then transforms it into outputs such as HTML, MathML, JATS, or EPUB.
Run latexml to create intermediate XML, then latexmlpost to write the chosen publication, or use latexmlc to combine the stages without saving intermediate XML. The official usage examples select destinations for HTML and EPUB; extensions or a format option choose the output. Default HTML5 represents mathematics with MathML, while other routes include image-based math, JATS and TEI. Splitting or combining documents supports larger sites. This structured approach still has documented gaps in TeX emulation/package coverage. NIST dedicates the software to the public domain.
Strengths
- Provides a structured intermediate representation for mathematical publishing.
Watch out for
- TeX emulation and package coverage have documented gaps.
Best for
- Publishing LaTeX-based mathematical material on the web
