What it does
Mautic is a marketing automation application for managing contacts, email campaigns, landing pages and behaviour-based journeys. Its campaign builder connects entry sources, decisions, conditions and actions, while the downloadable core runs on infrastructure you manage. The core is free under GPLv3, with hosting and administration handled separately.
A Mautic campaign can start with a form submission, membership of a segment, or both. That makes the entry rule the useful first decision: a course enquiry form might begin one sequence, while a changing segment of existing contacts begins another. The campaign builder can branch on positive and negative decisions, wait for a period, use a fixed date, jump to a step or move a contact into a different campaign. A waiting step and a condition serve different purposes: one controls timing, while the other chooses what happens next.
Mautic also supports conditional website content. For example, a newsletter signup prompt need not remain visible to someone already subscribed. Running these features means maintaining the application as well as the campaign: the download guide recommends Composer, requires server and scheduled-task setup, and advises against cheap shared hosting. You can download and operate the GPLv3 core without a software fee; hosting and operational work remain part of the project.
The web installer connects the database, creates a local administrator account and configures the email provider. You then log in to your own Mautic installation. A hosted trial is also available through the project website for people who want to inspect the application before arranging their own server.
