What it does
ZBrush is Maxon's digital sculpting, modelling and painting application for characters, creatures and other 3D forms. Desktop subscriptions include the premium iPad edition. A separate free iPad plan offers 28 brushes and limited tools, and using ZBrush requires a MyMaxon account.
DynaMesh rebuilds a model's surface geometry while its shape changes. The iPad guide describes enabling DynaMesh in the Geometry palette, sculpting, then holding Ctrl or Cmd and dragging in empty canvas space to remesh. The Polyframe view lets you inspect the resulting polygons.
The Resolution slider controls how much geometry the remesh creates. Reducing it loses fine surface detail. Project tries to transfer the previous shape onto the new surface, but Maxon warns that some detail will still be lost. This is a useful distinction when moving from broad character forms to smaller features.
Compare the editions
The free iPad plan has restricted DynaMesh and ZRemesher capabilities. Paid iPad access adds the full versions of those tools, while the desktop edition includes a wider toolset. Maxon's comparison also lists differences in brushes, mesh limits and export features, so choose the edition for the work you need to finish.
Strengths
- Multi-resolution mesh editing is included in the free iPad plan.
- Desktop subscriptions include premium iPad access.
Watch out for
- Lower DynaMesh resolution discards surface detail.
- The free iPad plan restricts several sculpting and remeshing tools.
Best for
- Artists sculpting characters and creatures
- Sculptors developing forms before detailed mesh work
