What it does

Meltwater monitors social conversations alongside news and forums, with sentiment analysis, competitive comparisons, alerts and reporting. Social listening, also called Explore, belongs to its wider media and marketing intelligence platform. Access requires a user account and a tailored paid agreement; the vendor offers guided demonstrations rather than a self-service free trial.

When a sentiment alert changes a team's priorities, inspect the linked posts and articles before deciding what the change means. Meltwater treats sentiment as directional: accuracy differs across sources, languages and contexts. Themes, narrative summaries and longer-term trends help interpret the examples.

A listening setup could follow a product name and its main competitors, then set volume or sentiment thresholds for the people who need notifications. Slack and Microsoft Teams can receive those alerts. Share-of-voice comparisons and continuously updated dashboards give the subsequent report a broader view than the alert alone. Reports can be exported or shared. Source and regional coverage depend on the selected package.

Pricing is tailored to modules, data scope, users, integrations and support. Most agreements have a twelve-month minimum, and complex integrations or multi-region setups may carry an implementation charge in the proposal. Evaluation is through a free guided demonstration.

Users belong to the organisation's Meltwater account and are managed under Account > Users. Continued platform access requires an active subscription: access is suspended after the agreement expires without renewal. For an agreement with automatic renewal, Meltwater's renewal guidance specifies cancellation at least sixty days before the end of the term; include that date in the team's contract calendar.

  • Configurable alerts can notify teams through Slack or Microsoft Teams

Watch out for

  • Sentiment interpretation needs source context because accuracy varies by language and source
  • Most agreements have a 12-month minimum and complex setups may add implementation charges

Best for
