What it does
Meshmatic converts CAD and mesh files for real-time visualization using editable processing profiles. Desktop access is subscription-based, with registration and a seven-day trial limited to 60,000 vertices. The vendor also offers a separate browser service, Meshmatic Web, for conversion, optimization and previews.
The desktop workflow imports a CAD or mesh file, selects a target visualization profile, processes it and exports a result for the receiving application. CAD tessellation has linear and angular deflection controls for mesh resolution. The published output examples include FBX, GLB, glTF, USD and Datasmith.
Profile choice changes what happens to the geometry. File Exchanger converts the file format without applying optimization. Web 2 simplifies the mesh and combines parts that share a material. Web 3 uses remeshing; its guide explains how to replace Reduce High Poly Mesh - Min with the stronger Max operation in the profile editor. These Web profiles prepare desktop output for browsers; they are distinct from the Meshmatic Web service.
Tool order matters within an edited profile. The documentation puts removal of non-manifold geometry before smooth-normal generation and warns against mesh-modifying tools after UV generation. The other preparation tools include duplicate instancing, size-based part removal and hierarchy cleanup.
Core Engine offers monthly or annual subscriptions, while native CATIA, SolidWorks and Creo support requires add-ons. The seven-day trial has no automatic paid conversion, but its licence is for internal evaluation and its input limit is 60,000 vertices. The desktop FAQ says processing stays on the local machine; registration and internet access are still required for activation and subscription validation. The single-user desktop licence covers one designated computer, with reassignment revoking the former machine's access.
Strengths
- Editable profiles distinguish format conversion from simplification and remeshing.
- Linear and angular deflection settings control CAD tessellation.
- Duplicate instancing and hierarchy cleanup address assembly structure as well as mesh size.
Watch out for
- The seven-day desktop trial is limited to 60,000 vertices and internal evaluation.
- Core Engine needs add-ons for native CATIA, SolidWorks and Creo files.
- Desktop activation and subscription validation require registration and internet access.
Best for
- Visualization teams converting CAD assemblies to mesh assets
- Technical artists maintaining repeatable cleanup and output profiles
