What it does
Meshroom is an open-source visual pipeline application for image and 3D processing. Its AliceVision plugin provides photogrammetry from photographs to textured meshes, alongside camera tracking and HDR workflows. Windows and Linux releases are available under MPL 2.0.
Meshroom’s AliceVision plugin supplies ready-made graphs for turning photographs into textured geometry, tracking a camera or combining exposures into an HDR panorama. Open a template, drop in the images and press Start. The photogrammetry graph moves through feature matching, camera positions, dense depth maps, meshing and texturing.
Each stage remains visible in the Graph Editor. Selecting a node exposes its Attributes, execution Log, resource Statistics and other details; the image and 3D viewers show intermediate results. Changing an attribute invalidates affected downstream nodes while preserving reusable cached work.
For larger jobs, processing can run locally or be distributed to a render farm. Developers can add Python nodes or wrap external command-line tools, and existing graphs can be saved as templates. The reconstruction pipeline also supports returning retopologized geometry from Blender, ZBrush or Maya for retexturing.
Meshroom is available without a software fee under MPL 2.0, with prebuilt Windows and Linux releases. The AliceVision dense-depth stage uses the GPU, so that stage has a hardware requirement beyond simply running the graph interface.
Strengths
- Node logs and resource statistics make individual processing stages inspectable.
- Python nodes and external command-line tools can extend the graph.
Watch out for
- AliceVision’s dense-depth stage requires GPU processing.
Best for
- Image-based 3D reconstruction
- Inspectable photogrammetry pipelines
