What it does
Microsoft Authenticator is a mobile authentication app for two-factor and supported passwordless sign-in workflows.
Microsoft Authenticator supports personal accounts and workplace or school sign-ins, but its backup restores those categories differently. Microsoft's restore guide says eligible personal and third-party one-time codes can return from backup. Work or school credentials and personal passwordless credentials are not backed up as working credentials; account names return and sign-in or registration is needed again. Backup and restore also stay within the same device type, so an iOS backup does not restore onto Android. Keep the old phone available until important accounts work on the replacement and follow the organization's enrollment instructions.
