What it does
MinimServer serves a personal music collection to compatible UPnP or DLNA players, with flexible browsing by tags and support for multi-movement classical works.
A classical library often needs more than an artist-and-album list. Choose a composer before a performer, or start with a soloist and narrow the selection by work, conductor or orchestra. Browsing follows the tags in your own files. Its tagging log can help locate inconsistent or missing information, but corrections belong in a separate tag editor.
Install it on a supported computer or NAS and keep that server running while listening. The free Starter Edition does not expire, but custom browsing tags and several display options require a full licence. The full licence itself also continues without expiry; updates and the optional MinimStreamer extension are included for twelve months and need an optional extension after that. This distinction matters if transcoding is part of your setup.
Strengths
- Browsing can combine composer, performer and other tags in different orders.
- The non-expiring Starter Edition provides an entry point before a full licence.
Watch out for
- Advanced tag and display customisation requires a full licence.
- Continued MinimStreamer use requires a licence extension after the included term.
Best for
- Owners of tagged music libraries and compatible network players
