What it does

The Missing Semester teaches command-line, editor, version-control and related tools used in programming work.

Use the material when a tool repeatedly slows down an otherwise familiar programming task. The course connects daily development work with deliberate practice in the surrounding environment. Choose one workflow and apply it to a small project before adding more tools. The current page presents the 2026 syllabus, with older topics listed separately. It labels the source content CC BY-NC-SA. Community translations are linked but explicitly not vetted by the course team, so check their edition against the main notes.
