What it does
Moho is paid 2D animation software for Windows and Mac, combining vector drawing with character rigs and bitmap deformation. Pro includes Smart Bones, meshes and layered PSD import; Debut offers a smaller feature set. Licences are perpetual, and a 30-day Pro trial is available with import and export restrictions.
Build controls for an illustrated character
A Smart Bone links bone movement to a prepared action, such as a face turn or an elbow correction. Pro also has meshes for deforming bitmap artwork and Curvers for bending forms such as hair or tails. You can draw vectors in Moho or bring in layered PSD artwork.
Debut supports PSD files with up to ten layers and includes limited versions of Smart Bones, meshes and Curvers. Pro adds the fuller rigging controls and animation graph editing.
Buying and trying Moho
Pro 14 and Debut 14 are sold as one-time purchases. The Pro trial lasts 30 days. It disables importing external images and movies, disables animation export and displays a Demo Mode overlay. Files created during the trial can be used after purchase.
Download the trial for your operating system from the Try page. Online activation requires a connection, and the listed graphics requirement is OpenGL 4.1.
Strengths
- Vector paths, line widths and gradients can be animated
- PSD artwork can retain its layer structure for rigging
- Smart Bones can control several prepared changes from one movement
Watch out for
- The trial cannot import external artwork or export animation
- Debut limits PSD imports to ten layers
- Online activation and an OpenGL 4.1-capable graphics card are required
Best for
- Animators building reusable illustrated characters
- Artists moving layered PSD drawings into a rig
