What it does
MoI, short for Moment of Inspiration, builds CAD surfaces and solids from curves and Boolean operations. It supports CAD exchange formats and controlled polygon export, including n-gons. A purchased licence covers Windows and Mac.
MoI constructs precise surfaces and solids from profile curves, with Boolean operations for combining forms or cutting openings. Numeric distance and angle inputs complement the drawing tools. It can bring in curves from AI, PDF and DXF files, while its native 3DM format and STEP, IGES and SAT exchange connect the model to other CAD software.
The mesh handoff has its own controls. Export writes selected objects; Save As writes the full model. Choosing a polygon format opens meshing options for density, angle, dividing large polygons and avoiding small ones. Joining adjacent surfaces before export lets MoI generate matching vertices along their shared edges.
N-gons can preserve larger faces for a receiving application that supports them; quads and triangles provide alternatives. STL and 3DS output use triangles only. These choices matter when the same curved object needs a rendering mesh and a separate fabrication export.
The full version costs USD 295 as a one-time purchase. A licence covers both Windows and Mac installers with the same key, and a 90-day trial is available.
Strengths
- Mesh controls adjust density, face structure and shared-edge consistency.
- One licence key covers Windows and Mac installations.
Watch out for
- STL and 3DS exports contain triangles rather than n-gons.
Best for
- Designer-oriented CAD
- Curve-built props for rendering
