What it does
Monarch brings financial accounts into a household dashboard with categorized transactions, budgets, goals and reports. Available in the US and Canada, it includes partner access under one paid subscription. Core offers a seven-day trial and works on the web, iOS and Android.
A useful first job in Monarch is reviewing the combined transaction list. Marking entries as reviewed gives a household a way to distinguish checked purchases from items still needing attention. Recurring subscriptions appear alongside budgets and goals.
Set up the household view
After signing up, add institutions under Settings → Institutions, or add an account from Accounts. Monarch supports bank connections through several data providers and lets you add accounts manually. Each household member has a separate login but can see the shared financial data; additional household members cost nothing extra.
Turn a report into a useful record
Open Reports, choose Cash Flow, Spending or Income, then select a chart and its grouping. Clicking a chart segment reveals the transactions behind it. On the web, you can save the report's filters and export its transactions as CSV. Mobile apps can view saved reports and share chart images, but cannot create saved reports or export transaction CSVs.
Core pricing and Plus
Core costs US$14.99 monthly or US$99.99 annually, plus applicable tax. The trial lasts seven days and converts to a renewing subscription; cancel at least 24 hours before it ends to avoid billing.
Plus adds forecasting, business tracking and more detailed investment analysis, with annual billing. Its complete feature set is on desktop; only parts of business tracking are available on mobile.
Monarch does not convert currencies. Mixing US-dollar and Canadian-dollar accounts combines their numbers as though they were the same currency, so the resulting totals can be misleading.
