What it does
MoneyCoach combines category budgets, bills, goals and account records across Apple devices. It offers manual tracking, Apple Pay entry through Shortcuts, family synchronization and optional supported US and European bank connections. New users need a paid subscription after an eligible trial.
MoneyCoach’s category budgets can be topped up, rebalanced or rolled into a later month. That suits a household whose priorities change after the month begins. Purchase entry can be manual, imported from a statement or automated through the supported Apple Pay Shortcut workflow.
Open Accounts and use the plus button to add a manual account or link a bank. A manual account needs a type, name and starting balance; selecting the correct credit-card type keeps it distinct from money in a current account. A separate MoneyCoach account is not required for the app subscription, although iCloud sharing and bank connections use their own service credentials.
Sharing means sharing the records
Family Sync shares accounts, budgets and goals across different Apple IDs. The owner enables iCloud Drive and selects Settings, Data & Sync, Sync, then Family to invite another Apple ID. Accept the invitation on every participating device. Each person can arrange their own overview, but participants can edit the shared dataset; hiding an account from an overview does not create a private account. Family access also requires the appropriate paid access for each participant.
Paid plans and bank coverage
The website gives reference prices from €4.99 monthly or €39.99 yearly for Premium, with four bank logins, and from €7.99 monthly or €59.99 yearly for Max, with eight. Max also adds investment features. App Store country, taxes and offers determine the actual purchase price and trial. New customers do not receive a lasting free plan after the trial; some earlier users retain limited legacy access.
Bank sync supports eligible US and European institutions. US connections and reconnections start on iPhone before data updates across devices. UK and Canadian bank linking are currently unavailable. Imported transactions can arrive later than the bank’s own records, and bank sync reads account information without moving money.
Strengths
- Category budgets can be adjusted and carried into later months.
- Family Sync shares finance records across separate Apple IDs.
- Manual entry and statement imports remain available without linking a bank.
Watch out for
- Family participants can edit the shared dataset; personal overview settings do not make records private.
- US bank linking starts on iPhone, and UK and Canadian bank connections are currently unavailable.
Best for
- Apple households sharing budgets across separate Apple IDs
- People combining flexible category budgets with optional bank imports
