What it does

Money Pro combines account registers, bill planning and category budgets on iOS, Android, Mac and Windows. Budget entries can have their own schedules and rollover rules. Paid access varies by app: Money Pro 3.0 requires PLUS or GOLD, while the classic Mac app has an upfront purchase.

A weekly food budget and a yearly renewal can use different repetition periods in Money Pro. Set each budget entry's amount, dates and currency rather than forcing every category into one monthly interval.

Rollover carries unused amounts forward and also carries overspending into the next period. Use the same categories when recording purchases so the budget progress reflects the register.

Accounts and backups

In the classic Mac interface, start in Balance, choose Edit and Add, then enter the account type, starting balance and currency. When retiring an account, use Hide to preserve its history; deleting it removes its transactions.

Local records do not require a Money Pro cloud account. Sync and bank downloads use an email-based account. Backups stay on the device that created them, even when current records sync between devices, so export a backup before removing the app.

Paid access

The US Mac App Store currently lists these choices:

Purchase Price Main purpose
Classic Mac app US$0.99 upfront Manual account records, budgets and reports
PLUS US$4.99 per month Money Pro Sync
GOLD US$9.99 per month Sync, bank downloads and goals

Money Pro 3.0 on iPhone requires PLUS or GOLD and uses a different interface from the classic apps. For example, add dashboard widgets through the three-dot menu, then Edit and Add. Before buying GOLD for bank downloads, use Check if your bank is supported in the subscription window.

Strengths

  • Subcategory limits add up to the parent category's budget.
  • Reconciliation distinguishes cleared transactions from the complete register.

Watch out for

  • Bank downloads require GOLD and a supported institution.
  • Synced records do not include the separate backup files.
  • The iPhone 3.0 and classic desktop interfaces use different controls.

Best for

  • People managing several budget schedules within one personal register
  • Households that need category rollovers and account reconciliation
