What it does

Moneyspire combines balances, transactions, budgets and a bill reminder calendar in desktop software for Windows, Mac, Linux and Chromebook. Online bank connections and cloud sync are optional. A personal purchase covers the household’s computers, with mobile companion apps included.

The bill calendar answers a different question from a spending report: what is due next? Review upcoming commitments there, then compare current account records and budget tracking with that schedule. Moneyspire permits offline use, so a household can keep a manual register without connecting its online bank accounts.

On the welcome screen, choose Setup for the first time. Name the file, set the local currency and add at least one account, or import an existing QIF or QMTF finance file. The setup can also add bills, reminders and a budget. An optional file password protects access to that file.

For another recurring commitment, open Tools, Reminders and Add. Transaction reminders let you select the account, payee and category and split an amount across categories. They organize entries in your financial records; recording a transfer there does not itself move money between banks.

Bank downloads through Moneyspire Connect are optional, and can be combined with manual entries and statement imports. Its institution search accepts a bank name or website address. The iPhone, iPad, Android and Amazon Fire apps are companions to the desktop version, where the main finance setup lives.

What the purchase includes

Moneyspire 2027 is currently advertised at US$59.99, reduced from US$99.99, with tax potentially added. The desktop licence does not expire. One personal licence covers the household’s computers; business use is licensed per computer. There is a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Cloud sync, automatic bank downloads, stock quotes and currency-rate downloads are included for one year. Continuing those online services requires a major-version upgrade, currently US$49.99. Buying that upgrade is optional if you only need the desktop software. Minor fixes and updates for the purchased version are included.

Strengths

  • Manual entries and local files work without connecting bank accounts.
  • Bill reminders can include split categories alongside the budget and account register.
  • A personal desktop licence covers the household’s computers and does not expire.

Watch out for

  • Online services require a paid major-version upgrade after the included first year.
  • The mobile applications require the desktop product.

Best for

  • Households that want a desktop register and bill calendar
  • People who prefer optional bank sync and a lasting desktop licence
