What it does

MuPDF's mutool utility provides document rendering, conversion, text search, resource extraction, PDF cleanup, merging, and poster-page splitting.

Use draw for controlled page rendering or convert for a simpler format-conversion route. Extract retrieves embedded images and fonts, while show exposes internal PDF objects for inspection. These commands serve different tasks around an existing document. Choose the subcommand that matches the required output instead of rendering a page just to recover an embedded image. MuPDF is offered under AGPL terms, with a separate commercial licence for uses that cannot meet those terms.
