Muun's backup design deserves attention during setup. In its documented two-of-two arrangement, the phone holds one key. Independent recovery requires the keys and the information describing the wallet's outputs, which is why a familiar list of recovery words is not the whole backup.

Prepare the Emergency Kit and Recovery Code

Export the Emergency Kit as a PDF and retain copies where they can still be retrieved if the phone is lost. The file includes encrypted private keys and output descriptors. The separate Recovery Code is needed to decrypt that material, so protect it separately rather than assuming the PDF alone can recover the wallet.

Muun describes a paper-based recovery-code route and an email, password and recovery-code route. The choice changes what must be available later. The kit is designed to allow recovery without depending on Muun continuing to operate, but that does not replace the need to retain the required material.

Paying from one balance

Both on-chain Bitcoin and Lightning payments use the unified balance. Network costs still apply even though the app itself is free. Muun estimates transaction fees and also supports manual fee selection, allowing the sender to consider cost and confirmation urgency before paying.
