What it does
National Galleries of Scotland offers artist and artwork browsing across its national collections. Many images have free personal-use downloads, with separate licences for commercial reproduction and other uses outside that permission.
For a 600-pixel-wide share image, right-click the artwork image and choose Save As. This version includes a banner with artwork and copyright information. Eligible higher-resolution files have an enabled Download button and require a free user account.
These downloads use a personal, noncommercial agreement. Commercial organisations, university-press publications and websites promoting a business fall outside it. Use the image reproduction application for those projects, giving the artwork’s accession number, size, intended use, languages, distribution and deadline.
The published fee schedule adds a one-time GBP 37.50 digital-image supply charge to the reproduction fee, with VAT added to UK orders. Fees vary with the use and its scale; the free website download route is separate from ordering licensed production files.
