What it does
The National Gallery of Ireland releases selected high-resolution artwork images under CC BY 4.0. The selection spans different schools, nationalities, media and subjects, with commercial reuse and adaptation allowed under the licence.
Follow the Creative Commons category on National Gallery Images to see the downloadable selection together. In the Online Collection, look for the orange CC icon on a thumbnail. Eligible images are free to download without requesting permission from the Gallery; attribution and the other CC BY conditions still apply.
Strengths
- A dedicated category brings eligible downloads together.
- The same orange CC marker appears across both collection platforms.
Watch out for
- The open licence covers marked images, not the entire collection.
Best for
- Publishers and designers seeking artwork images they can adapt with attribution
