What it does
The National Library of New Zealand’s pictorial collections include photographs, aerial views, postcards and artworks. Its guides explain combined catalogue searches, a marked free-download pool and filters for different kinds of reuse.
Photographs may be classified under Images or Other, so a narrow format filter can miss relevant records. The Usage Rights filters distinguish sharing, modification and commercial use. Combine modification and commercial-use filters when both are needed, then read the image’s own conditions.
Choose Order copy on an image and add up to ten images to the cart. State the intended use at checkout, then use a RealMe account to complete the order and retrieve files. A greyed-out ordering button leads to Send an enquiry. The marked free-download pool includes images available for commercial use and alteration; other high-resolution copies are paid.
Free ordered images are available immediately. Other requests need staff processing, with routine copying normally taking 10 to 15 working days. Approved files appear under Available; previous orders remain under My account, then My orders. Credit the creator and Alexander Turnbull Library, retain the reference and identify alterations where required.
