What it does
MoneyLine is NCH Software's personal-finance application for Windows and Mac. It combines account registers, category budgets and statement reconciliation for a household's day-to-day money. A free version is available for non-commercial home use, and manual records can be kept without an internet connection.
Build a budget from your accounts
On first launch, enter account names and starting balances, or use the default Checking, Savings and Credit accounts. The Transaction toolbar button adds a manual entry. Existing history can also come from OFX, QFX or CSV files.
Select Budget on the toolbar and choose Add to open the New Budget Wizard. Work through the accounts, income and expense categories, then enable the warning option if you want an alert when a transaction exceeds the budget. In the budget window, Report compares actual spending with the selected period's allowance, including the difference as an amount and percentage.
Check the register against a statement
Choose Accounts > Reconcile Account and enter the statement date and closing balance. Mark the cleared entries in the R column. If the totals do not match, Finish Later preserves your edits without marking the whole statement reconciled.
The free download is intended for home use. NCH also sells Home and Professional licences, including a quarterly Professional subscription.
