What it does
NetBird combines a peer-to-peer WireGuard network with centralized access policies, identity-provider integration, DNS management and cloud or self-hosted operation.
NetBird's management layer is the useful part to assess alongside its tunnels. Administrators can group users and resources, set policies, configure private DNS and connect an identity provider for SSO and MFA. The homepage also documents network-configuration automation through an API.
Choose between the hosted service and open-source deployment before writing an onboarding process. Both aim to connect private resources rather than sell an anonymous browsing exit. A small resource group with explicit permissions is a clearer first step than placing an entire network behind broad access.
