What it does
Netdata combines a monitoring Agent with central dashboards and collaboration through Netdata Cloud. The getting-started guide explains creating a Cloud Space and connecting a node; the pricing page describes a free Community tier and paid node-based plans. It suits operators who want detailed system telemetry without first designing a metrics schema.
Bring one node online
The documented Cloud path starts by creating an account and Space, then opening Space or Room settings and choosing Nodes to add a machine. Netdata generates an installation-and-connection command for the node’s operating system; running that command installs the Agent and links it to the Space. The guide also covers connecting an Agent that is already installed. After connection, the dashboard can receive live metrics from that node.
For a direct Linux installation, the Agent guide recommends kickstart.sh. It detects the environment, selects a native package where available and falls back to static builds or a source build, and can install an auto-update job unless disabled. Cloud connection remains optional, so operators can decide whether to centralize nodes. These are documented steps; no installation was run for this record.
The pricing page lists a free Community tier capped at five active connected nodes and one custom dashboard per room. Its Business tier is listed at $4.50 per node per month when billed annually. The GPLv3 license applies to the Netdata Agent repository; this per-node price is for the hosted Cloud service.
Strengths
- The Agent can be installed and connected through a command generated by Netdata Cloud.
- The documentation describes live metrics and a broad collector ecosystem.
- The Community plan is free for up to five active connected nodes.
Watch out for
- The documented centralized workflow uses a Netdata Cloud account and an Agent-Cloud connection.
- The free Community tier has a five-node cap and one custom dashboard per room; larger Cloud deployments require evaluating paid plans.
Best for
- Inspecting infrastructure metrics across a small group of servers
- Getting per-second host telemetry before defining a larger monitoring platform
