What it does
Newton offers Canadian-dollar crypto trading with market and limit orders, recurring buys, swaps and mobile watchlists. Canadian residents need identity verification and a trading questionnaire. Creating and maintaining the account is free, while trades have asset-dependent fees.
A trade starts with an amount and a preview
Choose the cryptocurrency, enter the amount in CAD or crypto and review the order before confirming. A market order uses the current market price; a limit order specifies a target. Recurring buys automate the purchase schedule, while swaps show a live quote between supported assets. Phone widgets can display several watchlist coins or one selected asset.
Newton's standard fee bands are 1.00% to 1.15% for BTC, ETH and USDC, 1.25% to 1.45% for LTC, SOL and XLM, and 1.50% to 1.60% for other assets. The Signature program offers lower rates to qualifying users; its lowest advertised rate is not the default account price.
Getting money in and out
Fund through Interac e-transfer, wire transfer or a crypto deposit. E-transfer funding has no Newton fee. One eligible crypto withdrawal per day can receive up to C$5 toward network costs; this is a capped allowance, not unlimited free withdrawals.
Account checks require Canadian government photo ID, a North American phone number and sometimes address evidence. Before trading, complete the questionnaire about experience, finances and risk tolerance. Crypto losses remain possible even with scheduled purchases.
