What it does

The National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases publishes a health-topic library with alphabetical and subject browsing. Related resources include Spanish information and selected Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese materials.

The three subject groups are useful if a condition's name is unfamiliar: arthritis and rheumatic diseases, muscle and bone diseases, and skin diseases. If you already know the term, use the alphabetical list instead. This keeps the first task focused on finding the relevant explanation.

Language resources are a notable part of the library, with a Spanish portal and selected Asian-language information. Classroom materials and community-sharing resources serve educators as well as individual readers. NIAMS explicitly describes the information as general education that should not be used to diagnose or treat a particular problem, so use it to understand a subject and prepare questions rather than to choose care.

Strengths

  • Both subject groups and an alphabetical index support topic lookup.
  • Spanish and selected Asian-language materials extend the reading options.

Best for

  • Readers seeking general arthritis, musculoskeletal or skin information.
