What it does
Novelcrafter is a writing platform for fiction and other long-form work. It includes the Codex, a wiki that tracks and links characters, places and lore, plus planning modes for spotting plot holes. AI is optional and connects to an AI platform of your choice, including local models.
Novelcrafter is a browser-based writing platform for novels, series and other long projects. The Codex works as a wiki for characters, places and lore, and it links entries automatically so you can see how your world fits together. Planning modes help you find plot holes and inconsistencies early. The Codex can be shared across books in a series, so you do not have to copy the same information again. AI is optional. You can connect to an AI platform of your choice, including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, Meta Llama, Mistral AI and OpenRouter, or run models on your own machine with LM Studio or Ollama. Collaboration options let you invite a friend, proofreader or editor, and teams are available for writing groups. A 21-day free trial is offered with no credit card required and all features unlocked. Paid plans start at 4 USD per month for Scribe, but AI features begin at the Hobbyist level at 8 USD per month. The site does not state whether an API is available or whether the software is open source.
